So I have started a refurbishing project for a Ludwig super classic 13 x 9 tom, a WFL Ludwig 15 x 12 Marching snare that I had planned to turn into a floor tom, and a 22 x 14 Slingerland Sound King Bass drum. My plan wasto finish all the drums in a matching white-glass glitter lacquer together

I have ordered all original hardware for the Slingerland except for claws/tension rods. I got a brand new set of maple white hoops for it, and skins too.

Just today, I saw a 20 x 14 Ludwig Super classic Bass drum within driving range complete with all hardware rods etc.

I haven't started to finish the drums at all and the hardware is on it's way, so the question running through my mind is, should I just bail on the Slingerland Bass drum and sell it unfinished and missing tension rods/ claws and pick up the good condition Ludwig Super Classic Bass Drum to match my already Super classic "kit"?

The choice is not just based on aesthetics either. When I picked up these shells I said to myself "I would have loved this bass drum to be a little bit smaller" for sound purposes. And lo and behold... this Super Classic is not only in excellent shape, but it's the size I was looking for too! It would also save me a hell of a lot of work!

Do you guys think I could recoup my losses if I just sell the Slingerland? I'm probably down $140 just in hardware alone. I could return the hardware too, and just try and sell the shell. What about if I refinish it anyway then sell? Note, I haven't replaced the badge either.

Are there people here who might be interested in a project bass drum like that? Like I said all I really need are the claws and tension rods then all the hardware is complete. I could sell it to someone who intends to refinish it and it would probably be easier for them to have the care shell instead of having to strip off all my hard work... Help? Opinions?

I say get the Luddy, it will match up better with the toms you have. Matching hardware, wood ply makeup etc. The Slingy shell may be hard to unload, but the hardware will be easy to sell.

I think you've answered your own questions..It seems that your decision has been made.. I'd go with the Ludwig, as it seems like the logical choice IMO..

If it's difficult to get the money back for the hardware ask if it's ok when you buy stuff for it in the same shop. The heads you'll need for this project f.i.

Thanks for the advice guys, but apparently the seller didn't want to sell to me because I was going to refurbish it :/ Oh well, Slingerland it is!
