Amati - 3 ply first series

Amati drums are usually divided into three models: 1st series from 60s, with flat base stands and Premier-like lugs, 2nd series from 70s with modern hardware and lugs (original design, similar to Rogers or Ludwig) and 3rd series from 80s with deep toms, virgin bass drums and heavy racks copied from Pearl (I use word "series." Among Czech drummers, much nastier word is being used, desribing Amati's quality of gardware and sound).

There are some even older Amatis, but they are very scarce and company doesn't provide any info about ANY of their percussion, as they are only making brass and wind instruments today, so they are just "older than 1st series."

However, within 1st series, two absolutely different models can be found - 3 plies with re-rings and 6 plies without them.

These 3 plies are copy of Ludwig with Premier-styled hardware (altough they are not maple, but beech). Excluding the snare-drum (according to the guy who wrote the article, I wonder if he tried to redo the snare beds), their sound is high above later models. Now I'm really sad I didn't get one nice set of them when I had the chance - I didn't know anything about this. Well, I'll wait.

Cool stuff......thanks

Lately,I have been digging the funky Euro vintage kits.....they just seem.....well.....so foreign to these eyes........

I have a Eko guitar catalog (Italy) and they show a couple of drum kits in there.

I grabbed a super rare Italian Meazzi Hollywood kit in April I am restoring......

talk about fun finding parts for that!.......NOT!

Could you post a pic of a Amati drumkey? I THINK I have one here, but am not sure....

It's for hex shaped rods.

I remember a drum shop in downtown Chicago having Czech drum kits for sale in around 1975.....I almost bought one,for the oddness factor.

I talked to a guy once who had a Russian drum kit for sale!

I REALLY wish I would have bought that!

Cyrillic writing on the footpedals and everything!
