I currently keep my 70s Ludwig stainless steel drum kit set up in my basement.
The basement is not damp, so to speak, but I have seen some mold grow on some of basement walls.
I know that wood products do not like a damp environment, especially drum shells. But what about my SS kit? I do not see any corrosion developing.
I do run a de-humidifier.
I would certainly run a dehumidifier. All the metal parts need to as dry as possible, even in the air. Do it, or you will start to see te rust form on the t-rods.
How can you call the basement "not damp" if there's mold growing on the walls?
The shells are marine grade stainless steel...
The lesser quality metals maybe of concern though.
AS already mentioned Ludwig used the finest marine grade Stainless steel, and also as mentioned the parts are the area that will take the hit from a damp and moldy conditions, all the real steel parts will rust pronto, the shells will develop a oxidized hazy film on them from being in this environment also! get that drum kit into a proper inviroment, My stainless steel kit is my baby!!

I don't have that environment. Just had a few spots that I've since scrubbed off.

Dude, anytime there is "mold growing on the walls..." is a bad thing. I don't care what the side words are, mold is mold is mold and water damage will always be intrinsic to a wet environment. Dry the room out and you will be money ahead, leave it wet and suffer the wrath of the Drum Gods....no more, no less.

Yeah, you're right that's why I am running the dehumidifier 24 / 7.
Short of spending ton's of cash to dry out the basement properly, and you know what that entails, and since there is no room upstairs for them I'm stuck.
Given that, what else would you suggest to help keep them safe?
