Advice-Selling Drums

Loading...

Have a set (5 piece) of drums that belonged to my Dad (born in '56); trying to determine their value. Can anyone suggest best way to do this? I live in the NYC metro area (specifically in Montclair NJ). Need to sell; hoping not to get 'burned' by someone taking advantage since I don't know the market. Appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks. Cat

A couple of ways you can research what you want to know is by uploading pictures here and members of the forum could give you a rough idea. You can also search ebay for similar drums that have sold in the past. Also, try and find a local drum shop in your area. Not a big box store like Guitar Center, but a smaller independent store that specializes in drums only. Call them first and let them know you want to know more about your dad's drums for resale value. Some offer market appraisal value services for a nominal fee. They will probably ask you to bring them down so they can have a look. A good shop will probably give you options on selling in order for you to get the most for them, be it sell on your own on a site such as ebay, or on consignment at their shop, or just outright purchase them from you for a reasonable price that you can both agree upon if you don't have the time to do it on your own or want the hassle.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Hi Andypanda,

Yes, It would be best upload some pics, the clearer the better. There are a lot of knowledgable people on here who can give you the low-down on your dad's drums and if extremely valuable give you a few pointers on how to sell them. They will need information to go on. Make sure to take pictures of individual cymbals and try to do close-ups of stamps on cymbals. These will be tiny, stamped into the cymbal itself, and probably a little hard to find at first. cheers!
