Advice on pricing ! Gretsch & Trixon Last viewed: 3 days ago

hey All

I am new to VDF and have been enjoying reading the threads and taking in the great information on this site ..

I am thinking of selling 2 of my drum kits and am not sure how to price them

1. Gretsch Round Badge ( 60's i think )... 20, 12, 14 in Pink Champagne...

Not extra holes, wrap in good condition little or no fading, problem is the 12"

tom would not seat a head due to the wrap being too thick near bearing edges & back when I was young and dumb, a drum restorer / maker cut a 1/2' of wrap on both edges to make the drum tune-able & playable... the kit looks and sounds good and is a good player kit. I am thinking $800 - $1,000 even with the augmented rack tom... am I asking too much... or too little or am I on the money ?

2. Trixon Conical in Red Glass Glitter... Kick,20/16 Rack 12/10, Floor 16/14 and Snare 14/13 with the Telstar throw ... got the Kick, Rack & Snare together, bought a floortom and had it recovered to match (pretty darn close) kit is in decent condition , Bass hoop is rough and

i have replaced a few lugs that were broke with appropriate trixon lugs. some pitting on chrome..I have no Idea how much to ask... any suggestions on price ?

I need to get rid of some of my musical collection that I never use! Although it is HARD!

Thanks in advance for any advice ya'll may have...

I am not an expert on pricing, but I will say you certainly want to post up (a bunch of) pictures to get the best information (and possibly offers) from the guys and girls on here.

The Gretsch kit sounds interesting to me, but probably too rich for my wallet...

I finally took the out of the cases after Years and several moves... & have discovered more Issues It had been a long time since they had seen the light of day .

The Bass drum #96744 and FT #96706 still have the Gretsch label inside and unfortunantly the Bass and FT inside shells were painted black by a previous owner. The rack when "fixed", was repainted with a close color to the origional Gretsch grey & no longer has a lable ..The Bass drum has no Badge just a grommet, and upon close inspection may be suffering from the wrap being too thick ( 2 overlapped seams in the wrap on bottom of the drum ??? ) making the front head hard to seat correctly. The same problem

I ran into years ago when I had the rack drum "fixed"

I'll most likley try to find a local buyer so they can inspect and see all the issues with these drums.. or sell them to a local restore/ vintage drum dealer.

W ith all these issues what do you think for a price they still tune up and look and sound good ??

Thanks for motivating me to uncase and discover more issues. It's a shame that someone painted the inside of the two shells & I was too young and dumb to know better when I had the rack "fixed"

I Attempted to upload photos twice & they are still to big I have exhausted my ability to resize & will seek help ... sorry

Here are some photos of the Gretsch Kit !

Shamefull inside of shells ( BLACK , Previous owner) & Young AND Dumb RT "FIX" suggested by drum repair person to make playable ... If you look closely you can see where the Wrap was cut to allow the head to seat .

Inside of RT repainted to look like Gretsch grey and bearing edges redone ( not Pictured )

Don't CRINGE too much !

Constructive Comments & suggestions welcome & encouraged what should I do and is this kit worth anything ?

Will get Photos of Trixon up this week which is in better shape that the Gretsch ( although that isn't saying much )
