A Real Rogers Christmas Story!

Loading...

Well, I cleaned the 12" Tom and the snare drum today. I was amazed that the heads came off as if they were put on yesterday, with the exception of the bottom snare head. There was a very small tear in that head, so I decided to rehead the snare drum, top and bottom, since those are higher tension. There was a small spot of rust underneath a pod of dust on the top snare rim.

Amazing how easy the chrome is coming clean. I've cleaned my share of drums, but these are amazingly clean. They both look fantastic!

I'm off all week, so I have the time to put into these and am enjoying it.

Hopefully, I will have them finished by Sunday and if the sun is out, I'll do a photo shoot.

One other note, very detail oriented cleaning these with the lugs on the drum. Glad I haven't clipped my fingernails in over a week, they are a useful tool in this endeavor.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I have been using my tried and true method. Light soap and water with a cloth to remove surface dirt/dust. Chrome polish on the chrome, and a misting car wax on the finish to complete.

Day 3:

The bass drum and pedal.

All the chrome came clean without a lot of work. The hoops were pristine, as was leg and Tom mounts. The hoops had never been off and I took great care to make sure I put them back on exactly in the same spot.

Had to tear apart the pedal. It was stiff and all over the place. Missing a screw in the footboard pivot, but I had something I could use. Some lube and cleaning and it's practically like new. Amazed at the adjustability for 1966!

Should finish the floor t and HH stand tomorrow. Hopefully the sun comes out soon and I can get some good pics up. What I have done so far just gleems!Cool1

Car wax leaves a film on the drums. It looks nice but over time the drums will start to look dull.

I use a misting detailer. Never had a problem. I have used Zaino polymer on lacquered drums before and didn't have problems either. I wouldn't chance cheap WalMart stuff, only high end products.
