Did Ludwig ever make bass drums in the 70s with 4 spurs instead of the usual 2? Thanks.

Yes, take a look at Buddy's set from the late 70's. That had four legs and was Buddy's last endorsed set. Do you have a pic of the drum? I am pretty sure they were 6 ply shells as the 3 ply were pretty much done by 76, although with Ludwig nothing got thrown out. I have a pic somewhere if you need it but I am sure someone here has one.

By the late 70s and into the 80s, Ludwig used twin spurs on most of the kits. Look closely at the larger multi-Tom kits. You will see those twins.

It is worth that in parts. You can find the leg at some point...Cascio and others sells them as a pair for $63 but if you look around you will find one. Very nice 6 ply shells with no re rings. I personally prefer the 3 ply and not a fan of big kits but it is a good deal if that is what you like. I have the catalog on my hard drive from that approximate year. The only issue is you need a big rig to get it home.

Waiting to hear back from the guy and I have a pick up to hopefully haul them away since it seems to be a no-brainer. So late 70s like these are pre-Rocker with classic hardware?

NO!!

Absolutely not pre Rocker. These are sweet full on Ludwig drums with the new cylinder formed 6 ply shell of the late 70s. They are the real deal. Do not confuse these drums with Rockers. They are excellent shells that have a mixed following. The 3 ply was great for recording because they had nice warmth, but didn't project all that well. The 6 ply is a GREAT live kit with power to spare, but has a coldness to it in the studio. Many will argue that point, but few have actually owned and worked both type of kits side by side over the years. Get them and play them. Let your own ears be the final word.

It's a deal. Go get 'em. About the spurs, duals were put on 16" deep bass drums. The 14" drums still had a single set of spurs.
