I have a question: What's the difference in sound between a 1978 6.5x14 Black Beauty and a 1978 6.5x14 Supraphonic? I'm talking not engraved or anything that would inherently make it more of a showpiece. I'm just talking black vs. chrome. Is there a $500-1000 difference in sound? Enlighten me.
Probably none...just like a 1920s L&L DeLuxe Standard (Black Beauty) vs. a 1920s L&L NOB Standard....same shell, just different a accoutrements...

There is a difference in shell material (417 = brass, 402 = aluminum), but you would be hard pressed to realize a sonic difference.
It's hype, so don't think that your newer BB is any lesser a snare than something from the 70's/80's.
