'65 Slingerland kit

Loading...

Here I go again. I find myself in the position to acquire more vintage drums. I am very close to having the Trixon kit put together. In the mean time, I picked up a mid sixties Ludwig blue sparkle kit including a Supraphonic snare. The shells are totally in need of re-wrapping, but for the most part, all there. Now, I have an opportunity to buy a very nice 1965 Slingerland kit in Marine White Pearl. Dimensions are: 9X13, 10X14, 16X16, 14X22. I'm just not sure what it's worth. Any feedback would be appreciated. I have played, bought and sold guitars and amps for many years. I have just recently gotten into the drum world. After getting and examining pictures, I believe this is probably a 70's/early eighties kit. It looks like a black and silver badge on the kick drum. Still a nice looking kit and I'm tempted to pick them up if the price is right.

Do you have any pics of the kit that you could share to help us to determine value? What is the asking price?

Good luck!

James

Someone else asked about this kit a while back. It's on pg 7 here... look for "Slingerland WMP kit 1965?" by cruncher99. Kit was listed on CL medford/ashland. Has since been flagged for removal. Everyone thought the tom mounts were Pearl or perhaps later Slingerland. Nice looking kit if the price is right.

Pretty sure a 10x14 is not a 65 drum.

I'd pass.......

The two toms and bass are heavily modified by the replaced mounting system.

The most negative aspect was already mentioned by kevins. Also, a silver and black badge is definitely not from 1965 and I see two triple flanged hoops, which are incorrect parts. Other than that, it doesn't look beat up.

That being said, it's a drumset, so it's worth a few hundreds dollars. If you can get it for a low price, it would probably be a good kit to bang around on.

Also, the 14 is not original to the set.

The tone control is facing out....

And it's not a Slingerland tone control knob

Another inconsistency I noticed: no badges on the toms. They could be on the other side, I guess. If they don't have badges/vent holes, they may be '65. But, the badge on the bass drum is not from '65.

This was brought up before a while back. Since the last time I posted these I have come across three more pairs in local Music Go Round stores.

For some reason Slingerland did this on the 14 and 15" toms.

The original question was." Were they made for left handed players?"

Still researching this.
