60's vs 70's Slingerland set-o-matic interchange........... Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Will a 70's Slingerland set o matic dual tom mount bolt on my bass drum where the first gen 60's is now using the same bolt pattern and spacing? Also will my 60's tom mounts fit the 70's SOM tom arms? My 1st gen SOM has the bass tube D shaped. I think the 70's tubes are just round.... yes? Reason being this early SOM is driving me nuts. I have almost 8" space between my snare and 12" tom and same between the 13" tom and floor tom. Just too far away I like them tucked in close. If I flip the mount 180* it puts the toms closer but almost flat. I need some angle. I'm pretty certain the 70's mount will tuck the toms in closer. It did on my old 70's kit way back anyway. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Just to add it's a 22" bass and the rear edge of the bass mounting plate is 5.250" to the rear edge of the bass hoop. If it were 2" further towards the rear it would be almost perfect. Sorry if it's a silly question it's just frustrating not being able to be comfortable playing. There's really no sweet spot setup I've found yet after months of playing them.

All my 60s and 70s set-o-matics have D-shaped bass mounts and tubes.... tom arms and mounts too.

I don't know about the super-set-o-matics from late 70s, a different animal.

You can get a little more angle raising the front of the bass drum?

Kev, the super set o matics are just like the regular D shaped reciever tube's on the set o matics.

Get yourself s super setomatic. You can use some of the parts you already have if you find a partial.

The tube going into the bass had to have the "d" shape; '60s or 70s. The round tube was made for the free standing stands. (The can also be used in the bass plate of the pre setomatic double tom mount, but that's another sto

I have used the super setomatic with a single arm in one hole and the stubby double tom arm in the other as you can get the toms a bit closer together and slightly further back.

Thanks everyone great info.

Kevins, yes this morning I raised the bass drum in the front to get a little more. It is a little better. Thanks.

I'll look for a super SOM. This should take care of it sounds like. I was looking at one on ebay a while back but didn't know if they'd fit. Good to know thanks everyone!
