60's Slingerland Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Hi everyone.

I've had no dealings with any Slingerland drums before, but I've heard mostly positive things about them.

I saw this ad locally on Kijiji, and was wondering if I could get some comments on what i should be looking for when inspecting these drums. The seller says they are 1966 year, with original finish, and they have the black oval Niles Ill badges on them.

He's asking $950 Canadian for them including the snare, which by the way he says produces a low muffled knd of sound, which he attributes to the bearing edge.

Comments would be appreciated

Thanks

Phil

Lots of red flags on this one, wrong tom and bd mounts, new holes would have been drilled, throw off is not correct on the snare, I can see the original holes. Price is much too high as these modifications impact value significantly. Also looks like 1 side of T-rods were replaced with regular tension rods, and obviously the bottom rim on the FT is missing.

From deadhead

... and obviously the bottom rim on the FT is missing.

And missing rims often lead to damaged bearing edges.

Looks like the ride toms have ludwig bottom rims, too. $350 tops.

Phil, there are a lot of great pictures and old catalogue scans linked to this site at the vintage drum guide. Its helpful to familurize yourself with how the hardware is supposed to look in any given era, so you don't wind up making a mistake buying something heavily modified.
