Hey guys, I'm finished with the blue Majestic kit and I have to sell it. I'll be putting it up on Craigslist for $350. but if a forum member wants them I'd do 300. The only thing is this is a pick up only in CT.For you guys who followed my posts, you know how many man hours went into re-habbing this kit. This kit is in amazing condition with absolutely no rust and only some minor pitting in the chrome. Original kick pedal, hi hat stand and the front bass head, tom head and FT head are virgin originals rescued from the bottoms. The snare has new heads top and bottom, new head on the bottom of the tom and an almost new Remo Pinstripe clear on the beater side of the bass. every screw, washer etc, removed and cleaned. All chrome removed, cleaned and polished. The metal bass hoops removed, wrap removed, sanded, primed and painted and the inlays reinstalled. The wrap has no rips, tears and is tight with very few minor nicks. These drums with the original muffler strips sound like studio drums. The cymbal looks fantastic although does not sound that great. I put it with the kit to keep it all original. Even the throne is original that I recovered in blue. Here's some pics. The kit looks even better in person..Rich.
60's Majestic Jazz Kit!
Nice looking set! 12/14/20?
Reminds me of my first set,
An 'Audition' 4 pc with the same pedals in blue sparkle
A couple things I would like to say here:
1) Too bad you have to sell her! That kit is a beauty!
2) Whoever buys this will be VERY pleased.
You see....my first full restore was a kit just like this, only it was Oyster Pearl. It was the same size shells too - along with the matching snare. I sold it to a friend so perhaps I will be able to get her back someday!
If you are considering this.....know this. So long as Rich has treated any issues with the shells (edges) this kit will sound amazing! The snare has a real nice woody tone to it - that 'vintage' sound. If you get this kit in the right room, it REALLY comes alive.
The hardware on this kit is solid as any MIJ kit out there and there should not be any issues whatsoever in that area. The shells are very solid, being the thicker ones....and so long as the heads are tuned to the shells, they will sing beautiful for you. In my particular case (my kit I did) the 14 inch FT was the best sounding 14 inch FT I (or my friend) had ever heard.
You WILL be blessed to have this kit.
BTW - I recommend suspension mounting on the tom and the FT leg feet, as well as studio rings once the toms are singing. These add-ons make a huge difference to any kit and I need to inform you of this as these were add-ons to my kit which sounded amazing.

John, thank you for your words, I appreciate it. Although I've only had this kit for a few weeks now, I kind of fell in love with it. When I first brought it home, rescued from a dirty old basement, I sort of mocked it up in my living room to hear what they sounded like. I was shocked. I wondered if it was just that it was better acoustics in the room or could 40+ year old MIJ drums sound this good. I realized as I started to take them apart that even though they were made by Star, they were nothing like the Star set I had just re-habbed. Instead of extremely thin shells with re-rings, these were much thicker with painted interiors and really nice bearing edges. Each drum not only had a muffler but also had felt muffling strips. I was worried that when I disassembled them and replaced the worn heads that they would not sound as good. As with every project I do, I went overboard obsessing over every little piece even if it wasn't going to be seen. The only edge I addressed was the snare, doing a little work on the snare beds. I'm selling this to get some money to put into the Kent "coffin lug" set that I'm restoring. The Kent set has a special place in my memory as my first set ever were Kents. I re-habbed this kit like I was doing it for myself so I know whoever gets it will be happy. As a note, the drums sound wonderful and have a wide tuning range. I would suggest any one buying this remove the virgin vintage heads if it going to be a players kit and save them as they are very hard to come by. Thanks again..Rich.
