60s Ludwig Hobby Outfit Black/Gold Duco

Loading...

60s Ludwig Hobby Outfit in black/gold duco finish. 3x13 jazz combo snare and 12x20 single tension bass drum. Keystone badges with serials only 7 numbers apart, making this an original kit and not pieced together orphans. 3ply mahogany shells with white interiors. No extra holes, all original parts except for 2 lug inserts on the snare lugs, and atleast 2 of the snare tension rods are replacements. There is a rail mount installed on the bassdrum, which may or may not be original, but its evident that its been on there for quite some time, the mount is missing the top rotating part and spade. The duco is chipping in many places, but most of the bigger areas are on the bottom of the BD and don't show. From a few feet back it looks great. Missing half of the gold spkl inlay on 1 hoop and the majority of the other. One of the eyelets on the bottom snare hoop is cracked, it is working fine, but will probably need to be professionally repaired or replaced. Otherwise no damage.

Vintage copper cowbell with bass drum mount and a WFL flat base snare stand are included. Original ludwig heads on the bass drum, snare heads and wires should be changed. These drums are in original condition, I have not attempted to refurbish in any way other than wiping off the dust. That being said, there is some tarnish and very minor rust on the hardware. This set should be very easy to get in good shape. Asking $450, free shipping in US.

This is a neat little kit. I had one that I put together but sold it recently. The 3x13 was built on Dec 25, 1965 which I thought was really cool and representative of the Beatle craze of the era. The 12x20 was a trans badge and was a little canon with a powerstroke 3 head.

Here's what mine looked like:

Good luck with the sale.

man, i love both of those kits. i dig the simple stuff. i played my ludwig clubdate combo for quite a while...bass,ride tom and snare. lots of fun keeping it simple and being creative with fills without using the floor tom.

gravy-tell me about that ride cymbal on your kit!

deadhead-good luck with your sale!

Gravy - that photo brings back so many memories. I can't tell you how many gigs I played with that simple set-up. When I was a teenager I used to gig with several different local bands playing frat parties, dances for the neighborhood kids at the YMHA, and local clubs, one of the bands I played for backed a Doo-Wop singing group. That little kit did everything I asked of it and more, no matter what the musical situation called for.

I used to get to and from gigs on a N.Y. City bus. Me and the bass player would struggle on public transportation with our equipment. I used that set-up specifically for that reason. Less stuff to lug around. But I'll be damed if it didn't make me a better player/musician.

I learned how to play, to use brushes and get every sound I needed from that spartan set-up. If more drummers took the time to learn to use a simple set-up like that, snare, bass, hats and ride, they'd be better musicians for their trouble.

Less -is- more...

Best of luck with your sale, deadhead. Great little drums.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

What kind of spurs are that kick, hoop mount? Very tempting!

The correct spurs for the kit would be hoop mounted; however, I unfortunately do not have the originals to include with the kit.

If anyone is interested in a trade, I would consider a similar Slingerland combo (kick/snare). Prefer a 20" BD. Let me know if anyone wants to trade...

I've had quite a bit of interest in the snare alone; however, this kit should really stay together as it is a matching cataloged kit. So, sorry to say I will not be splitting this kit up.
