60/early 70's ludwig vs. Rogers sound

Loading...

Which do you working musicians prefer and why? I love both, but i prefer a rogers kick drum with ludwig toms. Some ludwig kick drums are too pillowy/soft and rogers toms are too "perfect" sounding...if that makes any sense. The combination of a sonic boom thud that a rogers kick gives, paired with the fat and greasy ludwig toms, is a perfect combination for me.

Would love to hear your thoughts on which you prefer and why.

Thanks!

I'm a Ludwig guy, but I understand Rogers made some great drums! Never played a Rogers kit before...you could maybe even look up some videos of people playing their vintage sets of each brand to get an idea as well...

I'll respond, I guess. I've never had an issue with a Ludwig bass lacking BOOM! Could be head choice or whatever. My Rogers sound great. My Ludwigs sound great. (my Slingys sound the best)

I don't have a desire to mix the drums. They all have a sound that appeals to my ears for what they are. I would change heads if I wanted to experiment with different sounds available for these drums.

I've mixed and matched in the past. But there was always a NEED driving it. My drums don't lack so I don't need to mix.

What Would You Do
