First of all, I owe apologies for the mistake of writing Plowman instead of Ploughman, then the mistake of writing that when it was supposed to be addressed to Purdie Shuffle. I had just been checking out Ploughman's collection of Big 'R' Rogers on eBay and then proceeded to the path of error. Apologies to both.
Now, on the Camcos: Purdie - You and I will have to disagree on the look of merlot on the Gretsh and Camco shells. I prefer the look on yours. And, I sold the kit shortly after having the work done.
Antipodes: No, this particular Camco kit was built with a rail from the factory. It dates to 65 or so, though I don't really know much about dating Camcos. The kit I referred to was built a bit later and had the triangular shaped later mount on the bass with the floor tom leg style mount on the tom. If anyone has a Camco catalog from the era with the Astro kit showing as a 20,12,14 offering, go to the parts pages and you will see that a double tom mount was offered using the triangle mount for the bass and two of the leg brackets to hold the toms. I think it was an interim arrangment, after which they came out with the ball and socket unit with hex rods projecting into a new mount on the toms. The '71 catalog you can access from this webpage shows the Astro kit. I have a Camco catalog at home that I think is earlier, maybe '68 or '69, but it shows both the Astro kit with the new mounting arrangement and the interim double tom mount in the section that offers mounting units.
