'53 RK Hollywood Ace - Recommended snares and Heads

Loading...

I'm in the final stages - last of the missing vintage hardware, both butt side and snare side brackets, were acquired from eBay last week. Now all I have left are snares and both snare and batter heads. I've gotten the consensus here that Pure Sound is the way to go with snares, but I'm conflicted on what to put on it for heads. What's the best combination (I know, what sound do you like, what responses characteristics, etc etc) - just in general. Coated Remo Ambassador for the batter head, Diplomat clear for snare head is what I've heard bounced around. Just wanted to get you guys to weigh in.

As for snares, I have the single hole bottom three point throw (screw attachment with strap style).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks again, guys! Almost there!!!

Coated Ambassador batter, Ambassador Snare snare-side head. Can't go wrong with those.

Congrats on the awesome snare! I have a 60s Hollywood Ace, and it's my go-to snare, trumping my DW, Craviotto, and Ludwig Black Beauty...

Ill second the coated Amb on the batter and clear on the reso. I've got that on my Ace and love it!
