50's WFL Ludwig gold sparkle kit

Loading...

Guys,

A question for you all.

A fellow Dutchman is selling an original Ludwig 50's WFL kit, including the original hardware (throne, stands and bass pedal) and a Supraphonic snare. It's in great shape.

I would like to make him a reasonable offer, but I was wondering if you guys could help me out deciding what to offer him and what the value of such a kit is. I'm a bit clueless...

Thanks in advance.

Despite what it says in my ID, I'm certainly not a Guru so I won't make an attempt to suggest a price, but a couple of comments:

1) that looks more like a 60's kit based on the stands,

2) are you sure it's not Champagne Sparkler?, and

3) that Supra looks to be in really nice condition (also early 1960's based on the baseball bat muffler).

I am no "guru" either, but here are my thoughts.

So it is the drums and hardware, but no cymbals?

If I were the buyer, I would hope to get it for about $1000 (US) or slightly less. Notice I said hope to, not expect to.

If I were the seller, I would ask $1500. Some would ask for more.

If he actually wants to sell his drums, he should have a price in mind.

I“m probably the less "Guru" around here, but I“ll do this simple exercise:

(Trade values range between good and very good condition, nor pristine nor collectable)

1. Speed King BD Pedal..... $50/75 2. Hihat stand.....$60/80 (I“m not 100% sure, but same comments above)

3. Throne..... $45/55 (red pancake ... Cool !!)

4. Right stands (x2).... $65/85.

5. Snare stand.......$35/50

6. Supra (Ludalloy)......$ 300/400... maybe more ?? Well it depends of many things (Of course it dramatically change if it“s a COB)

7. Champagne Spark. Kit.....$900/1100?? (same above)

"Theoretical" Total: ...... Between $ 1455 / 1845.......

Of course, this are "individual" value market, so, if you make an offer for the whole set, you can assume a lowest price for that.

PS:

8. Cymbals (if they are Zildjian, I could asume more or less a $300/450 plus)

PS II:

Do not forget sticks & brushes... LOL

Here is a real 50's WFL kit gold sparkle it is a 1958 kit I was able to get $1800.00 just for the kit but the canister throne is very rare and brought a lot of my kits asking price. So with all the drums hardware and cymbals your looking at the high teens for the kit your looking at for sure.

Sweet kit!

Yes, matching canister thrones seem to add at least several hundred dollars to a kit due to how uncommon they are.

I would love to get one with vintage set!!

being in the Netherlands probably pushes the value up quite a bit too. Looks like a really nice kit

I would ask for a photo of one of the drums with the hoop taken off. It looks like the wrap might be faded a bit. The chrome also looks very nice on the snare drum. It might be a good idea to find out if the snare badge is pre serial and get a couple of photos of the inside of the shell in the hopes that it is COB. I'm fairly sure the baseball bat muffler would mean that the snare is 60's. The floor tom also appears to have nickel hardware while the rest of the drums have chrome.

I think somewhere around $900 is fair assuming the snare drum is ludalloy and more if it is COB. I'm sure the European market different than the US though.

I am assuming that the drums(except snare) are all badged WFL, and are all pre serial numbers.

That is way too evenly colored for it to be faded gold sparkle. It must be Champagne.

Yes, the floor tom hardware does look like nickel!

The snare does look so flawless that the shell might be COB, but the hoops and hardware also look spotless, so I am guessing it is `60s Ludalloy in very good condition.
