4 vs 6 rivets on jazz ride Last viewed: 20 hours ago

Trying to decide if I want to install 4 rivets or 6 rivets for a jazz left ride. It's a 20". I want it to sizzle like a hot steak, but wondering if 6 rivets might overwhelm the stick definition. Any thoughts?

Is your cymbal already drilled ? Each cymbal is different, & it's hard to know ahead of time what will really work. I've had quite a few factory drilled swishes & rides , some w/ many holes, but found that 2 rivets gave me the best, most controllable voice. If your cymbal is not drilled, I would leave it alone, & use one of the many alternative ways to get some "Sizzle". The non intrusive methods, will actually give you more choices in sound & adjustment.

Cymbal is not yet drilled...

I plan to use 2 on the main, but want more sizzle on the left ride.

If the holes are alreay drilled, start with 2 rivets ,then add rivets until you get the sound you want. Then try it in a live setting .Have a friend sit out away from you and see if he/she can hear the sizzle.

I had a old 20" A drilled for rivets back in the 70's. I had 6 put in and it sounded a bit choked. Took 2 out and was better with 4. Grew out of the sound after a few years and took them all out. I never really got the sizzle sound I was looking for out of it anyway.

The cymbals i have have 4 or 6 rivets on them..If 4 they are at 12,3,6,9 or 9,10,11,12 or 3,5,7,9. Some of the ones i have all 4 rivets at 6 on the cymbalIf 6 rivests 12,3-[2 at 3]-6,9-[2 at 9]-ete,ete.It comes down to what sound you are looking ..Mikey
