3-ply Ludwigs vs yamaha MCA in modern studio recording Last viewed: 6 hours ago

It really depends on the sounds the other musicians are making too. If the bass player is using some active 5 string garbage through 6 different pedals, you know the kind of tones they'll be looking for from the drummer. Clean and punchy with lots of sustain. Yamaha.

If the guitar player is bringing his '68 Casino and 12 string Rickenbacker, you'd better show up with some Ludwigs.

My choice in either case would be to bring my Ludwig drums. If for no other reason than to give my own playing that vibe. An valid engineer can fuss with the sound of your kit to make it sound like anything.

I must say I have always used my yamaha's (20,10,12,14) but for this project I always liked to use an old pearl kit with 22,13,16 and enjoy the fatter sound of the toms. But with some pinstripes they sounded TOO fat.

So I think the Ludwig might do the job. The music is pretty acoustic but still with a funky drum-vibe (thats how I play).

So very possible the ludwig will do a great job, however the guy I'm recording for is a big DW fan......(and I'm not so much :p). So maybe we'll have discussion :)
