1969 Acro Muffler Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi fellas-

Just acquired a 1969 Ludwig Acrolite snare drum. She's a beaut . . . my first Acro in the natural, or raw finish. Kind of remind me of a 1950's silver finished Porsche sports car!

Anyway, hoping to get some help with a few questions. Serial #:68xxx accordingly is a 1969 Ludwig model with a P-83 strainer. However, the red baseball bat muffler is loose, and not properly attached to the drum.

Wondering if the muffler is original or one from a different year drum?

Also, the snare wires are not factory. They're in good shape but have the plastic tabs, and wondering if the original, and/or ones with metal tabs make any difference?

Thanks for any advice.

that serial number is actually a late 64 serial number. the red felt is the right muffler for that drum. you should be able to tighten it without too much trouble. that drum would have usually come with the plastic tip wires that read 2517124 on them. your drum might even have chrome over brass hoops. check them with a magnet to see. the ludwig standard drums in the 69 era used a 5 digit serial number. this might have been what had you going down the 69 route. these are great acros!

Mike-

Thank you for that informative post! 2517124-check! 1964 . . . woohoo' I'm lovin' it even more! Sadly, no brass hoops; first thing I checked.

Yet still, this drum has buckets of mojo. Even came with the orginal ludwig case and stand. I know it's going to be a favorite!

Only debate for me is whether to clean her up or leave all the years of beauty marks, age spots, and patina as is.

Thanks, Max
