1968 Walberg and Auge Last viewed: 19 hours ago

1968 Walberg and Auge 4x14 snare. Super thin maple shell and groovy mother of pearl sparkle finish. Made in 1968 in Worcester, MA, about 20 minutes from my hometown. Initials inside the shell by the date are RGB. Hexagonal single tension screws tighten the bottom head and the top head simultaneously.

I love Walberg & Auge drums. I "discovered" their drums about ten years ago. How did I own and play drum sets for nearly fifty years before I learned that W&A was not just a hardware manufacturer? Your snare drum is a great looking drum. What type of snare strainer does it have? How does it sound?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

beautiful snare. I love the W&A drums, I have several of the snares and marchers in my collection. It is a beautiful wrap that i have never seen. May I recommend sending a picture to Jeremt Esposito, President and product line owner of W&A for his web site. he is a great guy and always appreciates pictures and information like this. http://www.walbergandauge.com/

Great score! I am a proud owner of a vintage set of W&A drums. (see link below) I've never seen that wrap before! I'm curious to see what kind of feedback you get on it.

Sweet drum, enjoy!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks all - I've made initial connection with Esposito on Facebook and will specifically ask about that wrap. Tone-wise its a bit of a one-trick pony right now because of the single tension set up - kinda low-mid "splatty" with some crack to it. I'm planning on installing new lugs so that I can increase the tuning range and get some more versatility out of it. I will probably go with thinner heads and maybe even redo the bearing edges. Although I will say that it's one tone allowed me to use it on a Nashville session a while back!

I have the original strainer mechanism and butt. They are not broken but they are unreliable when the instrument is being used, so I did have to redrill to accommodate a Yamaha strainer that is similar to a Ludwig P85 and a standard Yamaha butt, but that was the only mod. I will get single point lugs for that installation, so no more holes for this one.

Cheers all!
