thebaskit - A few years ago I shipped a Ludwig Stainless Steel kit to Oz (went to a recording studio) and there were no restrictions I was made aware of as far as size is concerned. Don't recall who the carrier was, it was somebody the buyer picked. That kit had a 22" bass drum and three heavy toms. It went in three boxes and it got there. It cost the poor bastard almost $1500.00 in shipping fees, almost as much as he paid me for the drums, but it got there.
