1965 Ludwig Club Date

Hello,

I have an opportunity to buy a 65 Ludwig club date in silver sparkle but it has had modern hardware drilled in to the base drum, tom, and even the floor tom. What is a fair price? Oh, it does include an unmolested 4x14 snare in silver sparkle!

Depends on the price they are asking.

Agreed. It's pretty much out of the realm of vintage drum market with what is perceived to be a lot of mods. Cheap. That would be the mantra of choice.

He wants $325. It needs new heads and he will through is an 18" ride and 14" crash. I think that is a great price but would it be difficult to sell in the future?

I feel good about this. The seller mentioned that he thinks he has an additional 14" floor tom that is in his storage unit.

Would it be a bad idea to repair the holes and re-wrap the kit? Does this get expensive to do?

Thanks again for the quick answers!

Any time you can get a Downbeat snare and an extra 14" floor tom, don't worry about cost as te 14 alone will likely recover your cost, if it is in even decent condition. Those Luddy 14s are worth their weight in gold!

As for the drilled holes, it will always be a detractor, as well as a re-wrap, but hey, the snare is worth it all on it's own.

Is the present wrap original, especially the snare? The value of the kit at this point hinges on the condition of the snare so inspect it carefully and if it in good shape and original..give him the money and try not to trip as you run away with the drums.Good luck.

Dude....$325?? GRAB IT!!!

And try to get him to throw in the extra 14 floor tom INSTEAD of the cymbals......then sell the snare and get all your money back plus some more for you.

And yes, the extra drilled holes kill the collector resale value of the set completely.....but for $325 and some work, you can make that set look great.

I have the 1967 Pearl "Fake Club Date Kit" with the center Lugs.....love it!!

I am in the middle of completely restoring the set into a 1967 Vox/Trixon "Tribute" Kit. Blue Sparkle!!
