1965 6 Lug Ludwig Snare Questions Last viewed: 11 hours ago

I have a 1965 blue sparkle 6-lug snare (Pioneer model?) and have a few questions on what parts to get. It needs rims, snare butt, snares and tension rods. My main questions are about the tension rod length and whether any 60's butt I get will fit the existing hole spacing. I suppose I will just have to look all over for the 6-hole rims and may just have to buy new ones instead of finding original. Same for the snares. So what length tension rods? And will any P-32 snare butt fit?

Thanks!

most all of the 60's ludwig snare butts are the same. the acrolite, supraphonic and jazz festival would use the same butt. i usually wait until i sit the heads and hoops on to measure the tension rod length. but, they are gonna be somewhere around 2 inches. someone will know for sure. i usually go a little longer to be on the safe side. snare wires would most likely be 12 strand with resin end tips with 2517124 stamped in them. chrome ludwig script wires would also be fine. hoops should not be hard to find. if they are nickel, that may be a little harder. 65 was a transition year. some hoops were chrome over brass and some were chrome over steel. the steel ones will be much cheaper in price for you. one of each can also be found many times in 65.

Thanks for the reply! On the prowl for those parts. I'm selling a 1963 16 lug Sonor Teardrop snare that is the same model as my kit but needs repair and I don't have anywhere to do that currently and I'm ready to get this one going so when it sells I'll get the parts with the proceeds. I already repaired it once so I'm really just selling it for parts but if someone wants to fix it again it's probably fixable.

Another question is whether regular brass cleaner is good for the keystone badge on the Ludwig. I suppose it may be but just want to ask in case there is a better way to do that.
