Hi Folks!
Cleaning and upgrading a very nice '64 Pioneer over here.
Any Pioneer owners care to share their choices on heads and snares for these six lug babies?
Thanks!
I, too, have a '64 Pioneer...Probably my favorite snare drum to play...
Heads? Remo coated Diplomat is my choice...but many prefer the Remo coated Ambassador. Either way, they are closer to the vintage Weathermaster heads than any other.

Good information. I have a Diplomat Fiberskyn batter head and a Diplomat Hazy snare side head on hand. I may give those a try.
Thank you!
Nice tone control. What's the drum look like?
I have a 66 Pioneer that I love.
I would check out Remo Skyntone heads. I've never used real calfskin heads, but those that have say they are the closest modern head to real calfskin. They are Diplomat weight. I really like them.. I have them on a vintage Rogers set and they sound really good.

As far as snare wires.....Mine has the original clear plastic ended ones. I wouldn't change a thing about mine. I feel that the drum is close to perfect as any snare drum I have ever played. It has just the right amount of everything I like. No need to soup it up. ;)
Can we see some pics of the snare?
Cheers
