1964 /67 Slingerland Gene Krupa Deluxe #1N ??? Help! Last viewed: 21 minutes ago

Hello,

Trying to pin down the year of the Slingerlands before I sell them.

The catalogs don't give much info on the shell material, but all hardware and such point me this way. These drums have the Beige/ Light Brown stain inside the shells. The grain under the stain looks like maple, not mohogany.

These are in great shape (original heads on bass). Bass has no drilled in spur mounts - instead has the clip on hoop spurs. 22"x14". The 13" tom is complete. There are no date stamps inside the shells, but there is a "P" stamped inside the tom. Numbers are 182395 Bass, 182309 tom. May not be all that important, but can anyone pin the year down? Any idea on there worth would help.Help2

Thanks

Is there not a stamped date inside any of the shell? look at this chart, your drums are mid 60's http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_2_serial_numbers_page3.html

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Looks like about '68 by the serials... that would be correct for the chocolate milk interiors too

Thanks for the info so far. There are no dates stamped inside the shells.

I've have had 3 other sets of Slingerlands all of them the 3 ply clear maple shells though, and they all were stamped.

These are still nice drums. Any idea on what I should ask for them?

Thanks

That tom mount is what was on my 66 pink Slingerlands, no wonder the original owner had it removed! Those are real sweet, love the hoop mounted spurs. I wouldn't take anything less than $500.00

I didn't see a floor Tom. Wouldn't this kit be a Windser Ensemble 6N vice the 1N?

If this is just a bass and tom, it's an incomplete kit and could've been either a 1N or Windsor 6N. Add an Artist or COB snare and you've got the shells for a Windsor. Add that snare plus a 16" floor tom and you've got the shells for the Krupa 1N.

The catalogs don't give much info on the shell material...

They're three ply-shells with maple reinforcing rings. The inner ply is maple, the middle ply is poplar, and the outer ply is likely mahogany.

These drums have the Beige/ Light Brown stain inside the shells.

...which was in use from 1966 through 1970. And like kevins said, the serial number is 1968-ish. That's probably as good a guess as we'll be able to make.

There are no date stamps inside the shells, but there is a "P" stamped inside the tom.

The "P" indicates that the shell was to be finished with a wrap instead of a lacquer finish.

Thanks for all the help. The guy I got the drums from said he sold the snare 30 years ago when he quit playing, and cant find the floor tom. Says he had it when he played em. He has my number if it shows up.

But he thinks its long.DOH
