1962 Jazzfest Question Last viewed: 13 hours ago

I am doing a restore/clean up of a date stamped June 4th 1962 Jazzfest in WMP for someone, and the drum looks to be factory up and down. Original hoops, tension rods, washers, butt plate, lugs, and red felt BB muffler all in perfect original condition. The weird thing is, instead of a P-83 the drum has the large Pioneer strainer on it from the same era. The face plate is the same as would have come on the p-83 (not the old inverted p-85), but the actual mechanism is the large Pioneer style (with the stubby little lever arm) also offered at the time.

No extra holes, and everything else appears that no one ever modded the drum (other than to place some nice neon green spray paint on a couple of panels and the top counterhoop). My question is this: did someone replace it (seems very unlikely to me based on the condition of the drum...no tampering evidence), or was Ludwig out of p-83 strainers that day so they threw this one on and called it good?

Ill post a pic in a bit if no one knows what I mean.

Thanks dudes!

actually the p-84 small strainer was $1.00 more then the p-83 in chrome in nickel it was the same price, the p-85 large was $1.25 more in chrome in nickel the 85 was $.25 more..now the p-87 was the priciest of all @ $12.50 in chrome and $10.00 in nickel, who knows if its been replaced or ordered that way. you sure its not a pioneer? a pic would id the drum

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies

1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Here are some pics of the strainer. The face has some bubbles going on, but overall the rest of it is in very nice shape. I figured Id do a green background as a tribute to the green spray paint I am removing from the shell and hoops!
