1960s Slingerland Snare (Niles, IL) copper badge Last viewed: 4 hours ago

This is the snare that I use with my Rogers Fullerton kit - posted earlier in this forum here: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=31603

The serial number is 50981, and it has the copper badge. These lead me to think it is mid 60s. Does that seem right?

I want to fix it up, make it sound better.... get back to playing my kit.

A couple of problems with it:

a) obviously someone stripped the finish!

b) cheap replacement strainer hardware

c) missing one hoop clip?

whattya think?

Hi,

Nice Slingy. That badge is the brass/black Niles Badge and was used between 1962-1970. The serial number on yours indicates that it was likely made around 1965. There is a nifty time line and badge id page at the Vintage Drum Identification tab at the top of this webpage. Just go to the Slingerland Drums link and you can find it. I think this is the Delux Student Model Snare. They came wrapped or lacquered, so perhaps your finish is original? Should be a 3 ply maple poplar mahogany shell. Very nice. Does yours have 8 lugs?

Thanks, James. Yes it has 8 lugs. The reason I say stripped finish is that there are some small spots that still have some color on them which look dark blue,. and what may be a light green piece of remaining wrap.

Its missing one of the rim clamps. I need to find replacement clamp, and the snare strainer parts. Any ideas, other than eBay?
