I think "vintage drum collectors" would be more accurate.

^ lol. Agree, more for a rich collector type with deep pockets. Too many other choices for a player, including progressive jazz outfit (still not cheap if original).
I also have an all matching progressive jazz 12 14 20 with snare in champagne. So far this is the only kit I have not gigged. All the rest hit the road with me!

I'm with you . There are very few current jazzmen playing a 60's Gretsch bop . Even they know , despite their rarity , that they ain't worth the dough people are asking . Crazy .
Or better..."vintage drum nuts" ;)
Wish I had a cash for such kit...
Yeah honestly this might be the most expensive kit I have owned. My Sonor kit all together was like $7k and I thought that was high.
Bidding is stalled so we will see.

I was at Sam Ash the other day and one of the employees told me a guy bought two Neil Peart dw replica kits at $30,000 each and he's not even a drummer!
It never ceases to amaze me how much cash people will fork over for something made of wood and metal. Now, if Neil Peart owned the kit, I could understand.
what do u think that set cost new back then ?
According to inflation calculator it is today's market value of $3,633.72
By taking into account that modern hardware is manufactured overseas, different modern (cheaper) materials, labor, production cost, tools etc. It quite reflects the reality.
