1960's bass drum leg question Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi all

I have a 14x20 BD I traced to 1966 via the VDG Ludwig page for serial numbers. However, from looking at the catalogs, I see none that have the straight legs that disappear into the BD except the Combo or club date. It is neither of these. Any advice on what model it may be?

I have a 9x13 tom & 16x16 FT included as well.

Thanks all!!

Ludwig bass drums could be ordered with two or four club date style spurs. Just one more thing to make you set unique or not catalog correct depending on how you wanna look at it. Post some pics it you can. Everyone loves pictures!

Are these the legs you are referring to? The first drum is a 1965 clubdate bass drum, the 2nd drum is a gold sparkle WFL Super classic it is a 1957 model both with the model #1303 retractable spurs. if this is what you are referring to?

You may also look at the Standard line of Ludwig, the leg slides into the bass drum.

1965 Ludwig Super Classic WMP (22-13-16)
1965 Club Date/Downbeat Combo Blue Sparkle
Cleveland Rogers COB Powertone snare

Thanks Clubdate64!

That's exactly why I ask questions here. Glad to hear that this was an option. Attached is a pic with the 4 leg option disappearing into the BD.

With a 9x13 & 16x16, what model would this be considered with a 14x20 BD?

somebody will likely correct me but i would say thats a super classic (13,16,22) but with optional 20" bass drum. the pureists would say it is NOT a catalog set, my set for instance is a 1967 super classic 13,16,22" with no bass mount cymbal holder, some call it Deluxe Classic which appeared in the 1971 catalog. the thing with ludwig is there is a lot of varibles, which is really cool if you are into having something that no one else has exactly.

its kinda like classic cars

"how many were made in this year with this engine, with that body style with this color and that interior with this transmission and no power brakes?"

more over how many of them are left?
