I just picked this up, thought I would share. All original (except heads), even the wires are in good shape. Edges are perfect, seam is tight - this is going to be fun!

nice find! I have the same snare. Totally warm, woody tone.

I'm happy with it. Throw off seems to work perfectly, wrap has typical yellowing spots, but that's ok. Bearing edges are perfect. The only thing is the tone control has quite a bit of surface rust and I can't take it off as the tip of the threaded rod is knurled. I am thinking about ever-so-slightly filing the very tip off so I can take it apart to clean it up. Wires are original 12 strand w/patent number, no broken strands. I'll probably just put them away and use something more functional since this is going to be played and not displayed.

Hey Scotty,

I have taken a few of those strainers apart for clean-up and lubing of the moving parts where they intersect. Well worth the effort if you have the time both aesthetically and for better function. Got a pick of the unit?

Congrats on the drum!

I have a 1960 Pioneer in a mahogany finish that is a transition drum. All nickel plated hardware.....WFL strainer and butt plate.......complete with original bottom snare head! Mine didn't come with an internal muffler however....shell is not drilled for one either.

Great snares!

It seems to be in exceptionally good condition and very smooth action, w/very light rust. No WFL on the plate though.

All finished. I used Novus #1 and #2 on the shell, and all the metal parts were buffed with ***elers compound. Badge was spinning, so I had to tighten it. Overall it came out very nice. The original wires have quite at bit of rust and I'm worried that they might break under tension, so I put them away and used a set of modern Ludwig wires I had laying around. Looking forward to playing it this weekend.

Interesting to have a drum with a 9-11 date these days.
