1958 Slingerland kit - Red Glass Glitter

Loading...

SOLD!!!

1958 Slingerland 22/13/16 outfit w/a matching 5.5" snare drum. Bearing edges and interiors are in great shape. The finish is Red Glass Glitter over 3-ply mahogany shells w/reinforcing hoops. The wrap has some minor surface scratches. Overall, great shape! The seams are nice and tight with no lifting. The kit has no extra holes and no issues. The bass drum hoops may have been repainted at some point but the inlays are original. The hoops show signs of minor wear but there are no major gouges or dents. The chrome is in great shape with minor pitting - a bit more on the snare drum. The snare is the solid shell Radio King with the clam shell strainer. The snare wires are original and in good shape. It has a repro lever for the throw off. The floor tom has after market push buttons on the leg mounts.

The set is factory matched and is really fantastic! The finish is glass glitter and not sparkle, so it is stunning in any light. I will also include a set of drum bags. They are up on FeeBay and I'm open to offers. If you have any questions or would like to see additional photos, let me know.

On eBay, they are listed as $2650 shipped. Trying to cover eBay fees so I'm willing to negotiate price a bit on the forum.

And that is the original finish? Wow! Very attractive. Must of been hermetically sealed for the past 54 years.

I don't believe he stated that it was the original wrap ... only that the hoops had original inlay.

Sorry guys. I neglected to state that the wrap on all drums is in fact original. There is a bit of that "orange peel" texture on all the drums - more so on the snare and floor tom. That is when the acetate in the wrap evaporates over time, causing it to shrink down. If they were completely glossy, I'd be suspect. Also, the snare and floor tom are the slightest tinge darker than the bass and rack tom. It's so slight, it was hard to capture in the photos. I'm very picky when it comes to color but I've been told that slight variances in wrap color from batch to batch back in the day was somewhat common. When I bought the set, I grilled the seller about whether the wrap was original. He explained that he acquired the set from the original owner and he stated that the kit was a factory matched kit. I know whenever you purchase vintage gear, it's always "well, this guy told me that this other guy said...". Blah, blah. I did my own inspection of the kit and, with the help of a couple reputable sources on the forum, I feel confident saying that the wrap is original and a matched set. Again, if anyone would like me to take any additional photos or needs any additional info, I am more than willing to oblige.

I actually like that orange peel texture. Gives it character.
