I have a 1957 WFL Ludwig kit for sale. 14" x 20", 16" x 16", 9" x 13". They have a walnut stain over the mahogany exterior ply. I believe these are mahogany/poplar/mahogany 3 ply shells with re-rings. The kit was factory ordered by CBC Radio Vancouver for use in their live studio and still has a CBC identification serial number sticker on the bottom hoop on the 13" tom. CBC had the kit re-finished and a modern tom mounting system installed in the late 1960's or early 1970. At the same time they installed the then new small curved spurs on the bass drum. The bearing edges are in excellent condition and look much better than my newer 1966 Ludwig kit. All drums are in round, heads float nicely and they sound great! Not sure how rare or unusual a stained finish was in 1957, but these drums look pretty nice for being 54 y/o. The hardware on each drum is nice and shiny with very minimal minor pitting. The 13" tom had a Tama mount on it and came with the proper Ludwig bracket which I re-installed. One extra hole on the 13" for the bottom of the newer style bracket attaching bolt. The bass drum has three holes for the original rail mount plus a few more on the other side for what may have been a cymbal arm attachment? The toms are missing their mufflers. This is a cool players kit with some rich Canadian history. Who knows how many great drummers played this kit on live radio broadcasts back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Kit was sold off in the late 70's. I purchased the kit from that person 18 months ago and recently bought an 18 y/o Nashville Slingerland set to gig and play, so these babies need a new home.
I was looking to get $1000 or very close to it for the three drums. Serious parties please PM me for more info. Thanks.
