So what do you guys think I can get for this kit if I put it up on Ebay?
I was thinking between $2000.00 and 3000.00 with the cymbals and hardware?
Also, what type of wood do you think they are? I was thinking Maple?
Thanks!
Jimmy

Sometimes I notice that completely unrestored "barn fresh" kits fetch a premium, but I have a hard time seeing this kit get up to two grand. It looks like there may be non-factory holes on top of the bass drum and not sure if the cymbal arm is WFL or not. But really who knows, because the final prices of vintage drums have been completely all over the road in auctions. It just might get two or more, especially depending on the cymbals...
What I did want to comment on is your questions:
--your shells are 3-plys, mahogany-poplar-mahogany. This structure was used until the early 60's when Ludwig started introducing maple into the plys.
--you most likely will be able to see the original finish color by taking off a lug. To my eyes, this could be a faded version of green, silver, or gold.
And a couple of my own questions:
--I can't see any WFL or Ludwig keystone badges on any of your pictures. Are they on all the drums?
--also I was thinking could the bass drum inlay still be there? That is, those hoops look like someone might have painted them at some point. Could the inlays be painted over? Might want to scrape gently with a razor or something to see, if it isn't obvious that the inlay channels are just wood & missing the wrap inlay.
These look like really fantastic drums, though! Just anticipating what a potential buyer might be concerned with.
Those cymbals look badazz as is.....I would leave them alone.........
Jimmy - I agree with Vintagemore2000 on the price. $1200.00 for the kit and maybe another $600. for the brass. A realistic price for ebay would be between $1500 and $1800. (If) you get two guys fighting over it, it could go higher. But given todays economy, going with the lower number ($1500.) will not assault your expectations too much.
Great old kit. Shame you have to sell it off. I know there must be some sentimental attachment considering it was your dads kit. I hope you get top dollar for it.
Welcome to the forums.

Love the kit and love the history. Hate to be a Debbie Downer but (and I'm sure you've gone over this a lot in your head) but is $1800 needed so bad that it's totally necessary. People would love them but these were your dads.
Sorry! Had to say it. DOH
Have you tried removing a lug? That should show you the original color of the set. It's definately either gold sparkle or silver sparkle. Champagne sparkle was not offered until the early 1960's. I did'nt see it earlier but did you say if the kit had date stamps or not? If they are there, they should be in red ink. Nice set!
Well guys after careful consideration and all of your fine advice I have to sell my Dad's kit. I can't let it go for anything less than $1800.00.
The cymbals would be extra but I think I'm going to sell them separately unless someone wants to buy the set of them?
So if anyone is interested in buying the kit let me know.
Thank you all for being so kind.
Jimmy
