1940s radio king Last viewed: 1 hour ago

My 1940s radio king. It seems to be all original, it came with the original metal tab wires which I'm keeping, It's got puresound extended wires on now. I'm going to give the American vintage heads a try as the Remo's are tight. There are some chip marks around the badge on the inside... Which are puzzling me. I'd love to know why, I'm no expert but I don't think it lookes like a re wrap. The shell is good, it lookes slightly darker like it's had a coating of tung oil or something.[Attachment: 84921]

More pics.[Attachment: 84925] I haven't done a proper clean of this drum, don't fancy taking it apart. I did soak the tension rods overnight in coca cola and washing up liquid, and scrubbed each one individually with wire wool and some chrome cleaner, they were very rusty, I also did the top part of the throw off lever this way, that had rusted. The seller said he'd picked it up in California and reckoned it hadn't been gigged or played in years, - when it came all the way to the'sunny':Snow Flake: UK it had an old remo amb batter( I'm thinking not 50s, but poss 60s) and an equally old Ludwig snare side head. With original badly bent ext snare wires,- at some point someone has welded some of these even adding a couple of extra ones! I had to take the small screw that holds these in ,and use it in the ' semi collapsed' butt plate. ....I've never had so much joy and fun in doing just these few things to get it in a playable state. Sorry for going on here but it's my first real vintage drum, I love it. So there we have the forensic details.!

From Olddrumgeek

Sorry I've never done this before the pics upside down. How embarrassing. Well at least you can see it.

Hello!

Nice drum indeed! See if you can get your pic/pics rotated and post 'em back up! I tried but lost the pic in transition.

It's very common for solid shell Slingerlands to have boogered up grommets on the inside. The drum looks original.

Cell phones eh? We just got one, strictly for motion and still capture, no phone plan. It's impossible to determine correct orientation while shooting, since the image flips to right-side-up on the screen no matter what!

I found just bringing them into the Windows photo viewer and clicking on rotate until they're correct works. Just close it down and it'll save the new orientation.

HTH!
