1937 Ludwig & Ludwig Super Sensitive

I picked up this interesting drum a while back and recently put it back together after some cleaning. It's a 6.5" by 14" drum with nickel hardware and came complete with original top and bottom snares. The Imperial lugs are the improved 37' version with inserts... so basically it's a Silver Anniversary model with 37' lugs. The inside has a 3704 date stamp and a faint old name and address written in ink... from Dearborn, MI

The hardware had quite a few rough spots with rust/plating loss. Cape Cod cloths did an ok job with the nickel. (My bench wheel is not set up right now, so I think I'll re-do the hoops and lugs at a later date) The wrap cleaned up fine with some Novus. It has a few minor wrinkles that I chose to leave alone for now. The signed head was a bonus that came with the drum!

I believe the Super Sensitive was last listed in the 1936 catalog (Silver Anniversary). I'm still curious if this is a rare bird... any other post 1936 Super Sensitives out there?

That is the coolest thing.

That architecture/styling is too good.

Is the second muffler knob part of the upper snare adjustment?

Yes, the knob tightens/ loosens the upper snares. The lever lowers the snares onto a felt strip so they don't rattle when not in use. Unfortunately the older upper snares stretch and can lose some of their crispness .
