How close am I?

Has a Brass shell. Were they painted ( like this black one) or were they natural brass.

The wires are not original. Six Lugs. Thing is in really nice shape.

Also were some drums sold without a badge?

Slingerland tube lugs are listed from 1928-1934, your is probably a 1934 model the strainer is called the three point shur-grip strainer 1934 was the first year for this strainer, your snare drum is called a junior model, and yes they did come in black! very nice snae drum!!Jumping2

Well, it's called a shur grip, but has nothing to do with a three point throw off. It has 4 points of contact to the shell...
