I picked this up a few weeks ago on the Bay.
1936 Gretsch Broadkaster
Cleaned it up - removed the rust and put some old calfhide heads on the wood fleshhoops that came with the drum. A few of the tube lugs were stripped. I repaired as best as I could with Helicoil thread inserts. The drum works fine now.
The throwoff works. The strainer was the first 'throw-off' type and was used from 1927 to 1936.
I removed the beat up lacquer finish and put a few coats of Tung Oil on the shell. I'll leave it like that for now.
The calfhide heads I had laying around aren't the greatest. I used the thinner of the two for the reso side. The drum sounds a bit like a snare drum I guess.
