14x14 Ludwig Super Classic early 60's floor tom???

Loading...

Hello,

Had this posted over at DFO a couple of days ago and was just wondering if anyone has info or has a Super classic floor tom with 6 lugs each side.

I know the norm is 8 lugs per side on the Super classics and 6 on the Clubdates. Probably a get it out the door or speacial order but thought it might be interesting to see if anyone has one, had one or seen one?

This came with a kit I bought from a friend's wife who had passed away so I don't know the full story behind it but it is a cool kit.

I've never seen one, but it doesn't seem like Ludwig wouldn't have done something like that. What exact year are the drums from? Do they have date stamps?

On a side note, that is one gorgeous kit. I'm sorry about the circumstances that led to you getting it, but it looks like the owner took fantastic care of it and that it ended up in a good home. What sizes are they?

Hi Wayne,

What additional information are you hoping to find, that you didn't get over at DFO? I believe the consensus was that your drum was most likely a custom order, or a mistake in drilling by Ludwig. Either way, it's a pretty cool floor tom!

WOW.

Man that kit is beautiful.

What I have come to find over the years of collecting/playing is that when it comes to Ludwig's manufacturing methods ANYTHING is possible.

Especially back then. There are some one offs/weird placements of badges/cymbal arm holders/throw offs/etc

Hope you don't think I am rude but if you ever consider selling that set, please let me know.

Idrum4fun, I was just reaching out for a bigger consensus because I know a lot of people don't like to go to DFO anymore because of the ad's. Thanks for the info.

Andlours, None seem to have dates in them that I can see. The floor tom is the only one with a serial # (99xxx) So I am guessing 1964'ish on the floor. 61-63 on the non serial drums. snare 14", 12" tom and bass is 22"

Thanks guys

99xxx is usually a early '65 drum.

I was thinking 65 also but someone mentioned the red felt muffler and was told could be earlier. Who knows? Thanks for the input.
