1414 Gretsch 3ply Shell on eBay Last viewed: 4 hours ago

This looks nice and the 3ply 50's 14" floor toms are hard to come by...and when you can find one they're usually well over $1000.

The Gretsch MSRP for a new drum in this wrap is $1300.....that's $975 at most retailers.

If you want the 50's 3ply shell and don't mind that it was a cocktail drum that has been re-drilled with a total cost at about $900 here's your chance. Some of us probably have all the parts already in our stash.

Here's my estimate for the total cost of the drum

$100 or more for the die-cast hoops,

at least $75 for the lugs,

maybe $150 for the 50's nodal leg supports,

$50-$60 for the tone controls,

$50 or more for the badge

and probably about $50 for two heads

Yes, I had the same problem the other day when I tried to post an Ebay link. Strange because I've never had a problem in the past doing so...

Post the Item number.

Gary - The link doesn't matter. Your post is an excellent lesson in estimating the final cost of a project drum! I do it automatically every time a tempting project drum comes up. After I run the numbers I usually end up passing on drums I would otherwise buy before knowing what I was getting into. It's a valuable lesson because it's usually a hard-learned lesson. In the past I've had some great drums that I simply overpaid for because I didn't take the time to run the numbers.

Good info!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hmmmmm yep can't add the ebay widgets anymore. Possibly a change was made here to avoid the endless dead links after auctions end and expire.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Just as well I guess - adding the item # works.
