Hey there, everyone....

I recently came into ownership of a 28" by 14" bass drum that was in an attic in Cleveland, Ohio. I have taken photos of it, but have no other identifying information, other than the "manufacturer's" name, which is J G Richards. From what I have learned, J G Richards re-labeled many brands of drums and sold them as their own. The people who had it before me said that there was a musician who lived in the house at one point and suspected that the drum was from the 1920s or so, but I have no way of confirming that. I will include several pictures of the drum, as well as the hardware. Any help with any information would be appreciated!!

Well, it didn't let me attach more photos than one, but....you get the idea.

JG Richards was a "Jobber". Jobbers bought directly from the manufacturers and then resold to retailers. They sometimes left the manufacturer's name on the instrument (Leedy, Conn, etc), or simply put their own label on. Below is a label from a snare drum I have that references JG Richards:

Some guys here might recognize the hardware and thumbscrews on your bass. I'm just guessing that it's a Leedy.

And WELCOME to the forum!!

Mike
