Default Ludwig "UFO" black molded snare case question

Say guys,

Pardon my stupidity, but I've got a question. I bought a black plastic molded "UFO" drum case on ebay. This is the one with the plastic hinge and buckles, not the more common metal hinges/buckles. It still has the cardboard "separator" to be placed between the disassembled stand nestled in the bottom, and the snare drum which sits atop the cardboard separator.

My question is: the top tube of the common flat-base snare stand doesn't fit down in the recess. It's about a half inch too long. I undid the bolt and wing-nut to separate the top tube from the "basket arm" portion, but still no luck. I then tried another vintage Ludwig flat-base snare stand, but that is too long also.

Does anyone have a catalogue page or an illustration to show how the top tube of the snare stand fits into the recess in these plastic cases?

Thanks, MB

Maybe a snare stand with a shorter top tube was the standard issue with the kit? Perhaps the stand with the kit was a lighter weight single-braced stand a la this? You could also circumcise about a half inch or more from that tube if you want to use the stand that is a bit too long to fit in the case.

Thanks, I've got one of those "student model" stands that I have a timbale on. It's at my band's practice room in the next town. I'll check it out this coming week at rehearsal.

Ludwig made two different length post the shorter one was the standard length, the 2nd one is the band concert model.

As Leedybdp suggested, I've found that the "1355 Micromatic School (snare) Stand" is two inches shorter than the common flat-based "1363" Snare Stand. (The upper tube is 13" long, vice 15" for the flat-based stand.)

The 1355 School Stand is the one with the triangular/pyramid shaped profile of the legs. I assume that the later production 1355-1 model was also the shorter size.

My black molded plastic "UFO" snare case has a recess for the snare stand that will only fit the shorter model, not the common flat-based stand. But I dunno if the dimensions of the recess in earlier or later model UFO cases was changed.

Nor do I know if the "upper tube" length in the common flat-based stand varied at all over the years.

And I'm not interested enough to start measuring the recesses in other UFO cases, nor the length of the "upper tube" in flat-based stands.

But at least I now know why my flat-based stand won't fit into my UFO case.

Happy trails with your UFO drum case and its contents.
