Default Maybe legit... but may not

I have some drums for sale on Craigslist. I got an offer to buy. The buyer offered more... not much more... than what I had them listed for. He said he'd send his shipper to pick them up. The contact is by cell phone text... his number shows up on my end but no name. He asked me to remove the for sale ad too. I responded and asked where he lived. No response. I said send me the money and he could have the drums picked up after I have the money. No response.
I've heard of some kind of a scam like this before.
I'm thinking who on earth would let a shipper pick the drums up without having the "real" cash in hand?

Textbook scam. Block his number and keep them listed.

Craigslist scammers are famous for that. Every time you put up an advert, you get them until you take it down.

I've sold quite a few things over the years on CL. This is one of the classic scams! I just ignore them! I also get lots of scams just through the CL email system. Whenever I list an ad, it includes my cell number so the interested person can call or text me. My number is shown by clicking the "Reply" link. Pretty easy to do! With today's technology, pretty much everyone interested in my items has a cell phone and can message me. Yes, I continue to get some scam texts, but I know how to identify them!

They want to send you payment in the form of bogus money order. Usually takes 2-3 weeks for your bank to get back to you are out the money and drums if someone actually picked them up.

I tell them to send the money order to the shipper and have him bring me the cash at pickup. Funny how that has never happened.

I've tried this numerous times. It's never happened, because it's a scam. Now, I don't even bother.

I played along with one of these scams and received a check with correct account information from a company in the mid-west. Called the company, checked with the book keeper who told me it wasn't one they wrote, but it had their correct address along wiht the acct. number. The shipping address was an address in NY. Very clever folks who managed to steal the info on the mid-west company. Of course after a few emails back and forth in which I insisted I sent the cymbals along with their "refund" they finally gave up and left me alone.

Figured correct then.... scam it is.
Of course there's no way I'd release the drums until the cash was clearly in my hand. Ya... I've heard of the fake money order or cheque before.
I may play along to see where I can lead em
I'm easily entertained these days.

If you are easily amused by criminals I sure hope that you don't vote for them. Interpret that as you wish.
