Hello, i would like to show you some better photos of 3 of my "Eugen Giannini" Snare Drums. This drums are hand-made and very rare, even in Switzerland. Hope you like them.

Always love Swiss engineering. What years were these examples made?

Hi, the red glass glitter (sunburst..!) snare is by far the oldest, i guess early 50's, it features the very rare and, like the whole drum, hand made aluminium lugs and parallel strainer. I have never seen an other like this one. The rims are also stamped "giannini". The brown pearl and the aqua-pearl are made in the mid 60's. The aqua-pearl drum was made by Eugen Giannini for Framus. All of this drums are international sizes, normally he made metric sized drums.

In the 1970s outside Zurich Station there was a glass display case with examples of these drums on show. They were all perfect miniatures which I suppose was straightforward to do as these were hand-made. I suppose the bass was about 12" scaled down from 20".

I'm curious about the modern company------ curious about the fact that they sell enough drums to stay in business. With all the drum companies out there, they are still around, yet you never see their drums. They must have a small but loyal customer base but then good drums don't go bad or wear out, so existing clients aren't going to be too often repeat clients, I would think.

Giannini drums is still in the business, since the early 80's own by Andreas Ermatinger. He is the one who keep drum making in switzerland alive. Located in the heart of zurich, the Atelier is a meeting point for all drum enthusiasts, professionals, both Jazz and classical. (www.giannini-drums.ch.) The vintage Eugen Giannini drumsets are very hard to find rarities. They where extremely expensive back then, most of the Jazz Drummers after the war wheren't aible to pay more then 4500! swiss francs, normally they payed by monthly rates. The most famous drum-set from Eugen Giannini is the bobuschka-set. Even the complete hardware was hand-made by Giannini. Today unbelievable. And they Sound incredible, in my opinion, i use them live and for recordings.

Nice looking drums,I have never seen any that old.

I do remember reading a review in English about a kit,mid late 90's.

I remember them being distinctive looking,and as I remember this lit was made from Ash,which was very unusual at the time,about 10 years ahead of anyone else.

I saw on the site he makes drums for Swiss Basel drumming,I remember reading an article about that in MD.

The thing that throws me is the Italian sounding name,but the countries are right next to each other.

And since these drums are Swiss engineered, they probably keep time just fine all by themselves.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously, thanks for posting these images and for the information. This is yet another manufacturer that I was, until now, completely unaware. Beautiful drums indeed.
