Hey, everybody! This is my first post. GO EASY ON ME, OKAY?
I believe I came into possession of a Super-Ludwig 401? The badge is yellow & blue. I've never seen a tag quite that color in the hour or so I've been researching my new friend here. I assume this is from 1958-1959? There's no serial number. WFL hardware for the strainer. Now, are there any tips on how to properly polish this bad boy up and get back to it's playing weight?! The kit is a sparkle gold Roxy I also acquired this evening. It has pencil-written serial number inside the shells. Don't know much about em. Do you? 22" kick, 12" rack, 14" floor. Dampeners on all drums. The cymbals are Zildjians from either the 20s or 30s. I can photograph the stamps of that helps? THANKS! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by doctorcomedy; 08-19-2014 at 01:24 AM. |

Super score, super rare and super desirable. I don't know about the Roxy's but that snare is very sought after.

![]() ![]() Very nice find!! I wouldn't do anything to the Luddy snare or cymbals until the experts chime in. Only original once. F* that up it can't be fixed and value takes a major hit. Creighton

Yeah, that's a brass lacquer transition badge ludwig snare. Don't touch that finish without 100% knowing what you're doing.

Hy
the Roxy set (Made in Germany) you got there is very cool! Roxy is a TROMSA brand as far as i know and with a good tuning these Drums sounds very good, you will be surprised. They look quite clean, so itīs a good score i would say. ![]() regards Christian |

![]() ![]() ![]() Don't make the "handyman" on it. Leave as is, or take it to a super-pro (we got here) to clean/restore that finish. ![]() By the way - All due respect, may we all know how much do you paid for it?

Oh My!
I think one option (besides just leaving it alone) would be to seek out someone who repairs brass band instruments. They'd know all about refinishing lacquered brass. |

DON"T DO THIS. A gentle cleaning is it! Warm water and Simple Green with get rid of surface grime. Don't use anything harsh or abrasive on it. Leave it as close to original as you can. It's too easy to do more harm than good.

I'm guessing bell brass.? Late 50s is right...
Upload some Clr pics of the stamps on the cymbals...pls incld. A. Coin beside the logo as for. Referencing the size..also showing how far in from the edge the stamp is...! If you have time , weight these as well..! Great score on that snare...I would just be guessing at the value....so I won't post...

BunE is an experienced collector, he'll know a good ballpark figure as far as current market value. Hope he chimes in on this one. Very rare drum. It won't sell cheap.
