Glue or Reattach Inlay Strips?
What is the best way to reattach or reglue inlay strips on an old Slingerland bass drum hoop?
I scored a late 60's Green Sparkle Slingerland kit and need to get this job done.

Two-sided tape in a few spots in the inlay strip channel and at the overlap final inch should firmly attach the inlay strip without inflicting any damage to it as happens with brads or staples.

Re: Glue or Reattach Inlay Strips?
I used Chrome Wrap cut by & supplied from Jammin Sam... they included double sided tape at the overlaps.. But I also smeared some clear contact ( a light bead) along the cut insert... 10 years later looking good..
Cheers John

Re: Glue or Reattach Inlay Strips?
The problem with double sided tape is that when the inlay expands, it pushes outward and the double sided tape holds parts close and the wrap expands outwards and it looks like waves along the hoop, and might just undo the tape (Pearl was taped from the factory and did this a lot on metal hoops). If you just staple it, like it was originally, then the inlay expands all along its length and it barely rises away from the wood hoop. So it still looks good, but it is really riding above the hoop.

Re: Glue or Reattach Inlay Strips?
There are thousands of inlay strips that were nailed or stapled that have cracked or split at the places where the brads or staples pierced the plastic strip. There seems to be no ideal way to install the strips to avoid lifting or cracking somewhere down the line. This is probably why drum manufacturers abandoned using inlay strips.

I’ve always used contact cement. Never seemed to have had any issues.

Re: Glue or Reattach Inlay Strips?
I bought a small can of contact cement and will sparingly re-glue them after this weekend.
