Ludwig 70's Bassdrum spur-replacement!

Loading...

Hello!

My name is Oliver and I come from Sweden. I just recently joined this forum and this is my first post. I'll tell you a little about my vintage kit and then to the question.

A couple of years ago I found, bought and "restored" ( changed/added parts and fixed a few things, as well as I could) an old Ludwig drumkit:

Blue/Olive badge. (Bowlingball) Black Oyster Finish.

Sizes:

24"x14" bassdrum

13"x9" tom

14"x10" tom

16"x16" floortom

18"x16" floortom

3-4 -ply maple (?) with reinforcement rings.

Some parts of the bearing edges on one tom is a little beat up, but that's fine, still sounds excellent.

I have a question though. The bassdrum sprus/legs are quite bad. It's those long, curved, metal-rods with a sharp, pointy end. You just insert them into the leg-mount on the bassdrum (I hope I made it clear which sort I mean). Anyway, these aren't working out so well, the bassdrum stands still, but shakes alot. Is there any other type og bassdrumlegs and mounts I could use without having to drill new holes in the drum?

Thank you, have a good one.

You can get clip on spurs which will attach right to the bass drum hoops. I would try that. You can get then on eBay. Good luck.

It might also be your bass drum pedal and the angle it puts the bass drum when it's attached.

They made 2 sizes of spurs..

For up to 20" (short)..

And...22" plus..(long)..

Maybe you have the short ones?

Can you get the front BD lugs to clear the ground...no problem?..

You should with the right spurs.........
