Re: Ludwig Black Panther

I completely agree with that. Heads and tensioning all day long. But I do understand that some of those fancy wood drums are gorgeous looking and I'm sure it feels good to save up for the fanciest...

Re: Ludwig Black Panther

I'm almost 100% certain that Ludwig used whatever shells that came down the assembly line and that there weren't any particular shells that got set aside for BP wrap. They didn't even care if they...

Re: Ludwig Black Panther

It would be a personal choice for anyone, of course....BUT....The value would be in the Citrus Mod wrap. Also, being that it would be preserved from fading, it would be especially desirable to...

Re: Ludwig Black Panther

When Citrus Mod wrap was introduced back in the day...very few people liked it. With the psychedelia of the times, Ludwig gambled that many drummers would like its but when Ludwig realized it was a...

Re: Ludwig Black Panther

It's doubtful, but it should be easy to see some kind of telltale evidence after that many years IF it has been wrapped over. Look at the scarf joint....Look at the edges of any screw holes....Look...

Re: Obp price

If the kit was damaged and in need of major work, then I'd say the price was high. The fact that vintage OBP kits are highly desirable, means you're less likely to find any kind of bargain on them....

Re: A Record for Extra Holes

Seriously, though Chewie:...Think about it....a drum/whistle instrument -where the air pressure is provided from the compression of the head and your other fingers over the whistle holes (5 whistles...

Re: Rogers Swivo Era Swan Leg Stands

Rogers made the most beautiful hardware, in my opinion.

Re: Tama vs Pearl - Late 70s/Early 80s

Well, all I can say about the Asian Invasion of pro drums into the US market, is that SOMEONE had to raise the bar as far as quality control was concerned. Ludwig was pretty much off the rails during...

Re: Tama vs Pearl - Late 70s/Early 80s

In regards to the late 70's and 80's...There weren't really any good drums coming out of that era! LOL! kinda kidding , but not really. That was when super-heavy stands and electronic drums were...

Re: Vintage Hi-Hat Stands: Gretsch vs Slingerland vs Ludwig

Yep. I have an old "WAMCO" hi-hat stand, too. It folds up and transports better than any modern stands...but the action is a bit sketchy. Mine has an aluminum sleeve screw that joins the top and...

Re: How to Play Red Hot

Wow that's a cool kit and extremely rare to find in any kind of good condition. The "crocodile" finishes were extremely fragile. Parts of the lugs were plastic and broke down no matter how well they...

Re: Vintage Hi-Hat Stands: Gretsch vs Slingerland vs Ludwig

LOL nice resurrection of a 5 year old thread...But I have to concur that the Ludwig 1124 is the best. The Rogers LOOKS the coolest, but performance-wise, Ludwig all day long.

Some of the companies...

Re: OBP Downbeat on eBay

Yeah, Marty. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments. Glad you scored the kit you wanted. If you want something and you find it, then the price becomes secondary. The hard part is finding any of...

Re: How one tiny screw can ruin your whole day.

You can try a double ended drill bit type thing called an "easy out" which has some teeth that grab into the ruined screw head and allows you to back it out of the hole. You just need a reversible...

Yeah, it's a copy! Imagine what the real one is valued at! I don't know about the politics of the guitar world, but I was just pointing out that it's not unheard of (in most other instruments) for...

Re: Chicago Show

I've seen this design a couple different times...Paige Drums (I think) did a similar thing with the cable idea.

Yes, a neat idea...but I see some drawbacks...What if the cable breaks? The entire...

Re: For Sale: Ludwig Acrolite w' Imperial Lugs

Aaahhh, the Acrolite -one of the best designed/sounding snare drums anywhere -and consistently so, no matter what the model. I have one of the "worst" and least desirable ones ever made ....and it's...
