Re: Estate planning

A timely reminder, for sure Gary.

Two out-of-state friends of mine died in May, one suddenly, one not-so suddenly. They were firearms collectors and neither had an inventory nor a plan for...

Re: Ludwig 1960's Ringo Starr high hat stand

According to Gary Astridge, Ringo's drum historian, Ringo used a 1121 hi-hat with his first Ludwig kit, a 1963 Downbeat....but his subsequent Downbeat, Super Classic and Hollywood kits used the 1123....

Re: Vintage Drum Market

Interesting topic, Dan....I think about the vintage drum market often, as I have a half-dozen COB and Aluminum Ludwig snares that are in excellent-plus condition. I don't intend to play them, so I...

Re: Drum Brand Preferences

I agree with what Mark D said...Rob Cook's "The Rogers Book" explains the enigma that Roger was. They had a small core group of dedicated expert drum makers in Ohio, but then came management and...

Re: Drum Brand Preferences

Interesting discussion! I know I've related my tale on this forum before, but since the topic has come up again, I'll rehash it.

As a teenager during the British Invasion, I wanted a Ludwig kit...

Re: Rattle / Buzz on Ludwig Club Date Rack Tom Mount

Very good, ghostpotion! I don't claim to know anything about sound, although I was familiar with harmonic frequencies in my Navy career. My guess - and it's only a guess - is that the stiffness of...

Re: Rattle / Buzz on Ludwig Club Date Rack Tom Mount

Was the loose lug nut/washer on the tom or the bass drum? You mentioned that the tom only buzzed when it was mounted to the bass drum rail consolette.

Just curious. Congrats on finding it!

Re: Ludwig Last WFL & First Trans Badge

I had a one-owner "Hollywood" kit, with toms date-stamped 11/25/58. All 5 drums (original Barrett Deems type snare was included, stamped 11/26/58) had 'Trans' badges.

Regards, mb

Re: Rattle / Buzz on Ludwig Club Date Rack Tom Mount

I'm just guessing here, but it appears that there is some harmonic vibration that occurs when the tom is mounted to the bass drum. If it were mine,

1. I'd start with the tom. Are all the...

Re: 70s Supraphonic question

I agree with the others, as well. I have collected Supraphonics, and have never messed with the interior. It won't rust or tarnish. And if there is a date stamp on the inside, you don't want to...

Re: Ludwig Last WFL & First Trans Badge

In my limited collecting experience, 1958 seems to be the year we first see the "trans badge." But as Thin Shell pointed out, there was a transition period for all-things Ludwig, which I would also...

Re: Snare wires not disengaging low enough

The Ludwig Super Sensitive snare can have this problem also. I realize the throw-off mechanism on your Gretsch is completely different from the Ludwig SS, but I've found that a Ludwig C1114 snare...

Artsy(?) Premier kit

Here's an oddball for you. Quite ridiculous photo of a Premier(?) kit that a friend found somewhere on the internet.

Scaffolding is not included!

Just for a laugh, mb

Re: Anybody Have Experience With Drugan's Drums?

On Reverb, Steve Maxwell has a beautiful Burgundy Sparkle Ludwig "Club Date" shell pack for $3750. That's good news for those of us who have vintage kits in nice condition, but I agree that that's a...

Re: Anybody Have Experience With Drugan's Drums?

I've bought a few snare drums from them over the last decade, and they indeed have quality stuff, but their prices are always at the top of the range. They had a large assortment of drums at the...

Re: Look at me or Listen to me drummer?

Thanks much, Leedy! That's a great pic! You are next to Ted Bluechel, a drummer with superb taste in my opinion. Just the right amount of notes played. A really classy player!

I've read that...

Re: Look at me or Listen to me drummer?

I'm with Leedybdp and the rest of you guys. I don't feel like I need the attention. I'm just there to have fun and (hopefully) be regarded as a good drummer. No glitter or flash, no lights, no...

Cleaning the grime off chrome-plated snares

Hi guys,

Can anyone recommend the best type cloth to clean the grime off a chrome-plated snare drum? Or what cloths to avoid? I'm thinking of Supraphonics, since those are the only chrome-plated...

Rogers sightings, mid-60s

Things have been quiet for a couple days, so here's something for Rogers buffs...

Some of you may remember a rather forgettable teeny-bopper band in the mid-60s called "Dino, Desi, and Billy."

Re: Vintage drum heads play or save?

I'm no expert, but if you are going to play this kit, I'd change out the heads for something new. Save the originals for when you eventually sell it. I once had a 1958 Ludwig kit with the early...

Re: Slingerland buffs - Fresno, CA craigslist

Question: Are those Black Chrome drums heavy? I'm guessing that they have a steel or aluminum wrap? Sorry to ask a stupid question, but I'm unfamiliar with black-chrome.

Thanks in advance, mb

Slingerland buffs - Fresno, CA craigslist

Re: How have your drum sets evolved over the years?

I've gone pretty much "full circle"....

1966 Bought a 2-up, 1-down Kent kit, new in Champagne Sparkle. Wanted Ludwigs, but couldn't afford them. I think they were 20, 12, 13, 14 with matching...
