Doing a resto project and just lack a 16x16 floor Tom. I would prefer an early 60s keystone badge-no serial number, but any Ludwig floor from the 60s with large classic lugs will work as long as itís...

Re: Early 60s Ludwig Kick in a dumpster!

I’d also like to ask, which spurs did this drum come with?

When I found it, it had Pearl legs which I assume extra holes had to be drilled for. Can anyone tell me which of the three holes are...

Re: Early 60s Ludwig Kick in a dumpster!

Gotcha. I might just fill what may or may not be the cymbal mount hole.

As far as the 4 holes for the Tom mount-What kind of mount am I looking for here?

EDIT: Never-mind! Rail mount, correct?

Re: Early 60s Ludwig Kick in a dumpster!

Awesome thanks a lot!

Inside is raw wood and there aren’t any serial numbers on the badge. So 61’-63’ ish?

And thanks for clearing up the original holes-I see what you mean now. I intend to...

Help identify this kit! (Probably CB)

Picked up a free garbage kit to practice messing with bearing edges. Could look and sound decent(ish) with some work, but I have no idea what it is. Lugs look like CB/vintage Pearl (seriously doubt...

Re: 1980s Tama Superstar 8x14 - Roller strainer??

Ahh thanks for the info everyone! I feel a bit relieved as I’ve been wondering why this drum was is so hard to get a good sound from given that it’s got a good rep and is in great condition.

I saw...

Re: 1980s Tama Superstar 8x14 - Roller strainer??

Yes, the snare beds are extremely shallow. Theyíre almost unnoticeable.

Re: 1980s Tama Superstar 8x14 - Roller strainer??

Ahh I figured this may be the case, but didnít have a clue on exactly what the point of that system was. Thank you!

Iíve heard you can use the Pearl ďfloatingĒ snare wires to fit these Tama...

1980s Tama Superstar 8x14 - Roller strainer??

Hello! I've had an 80's Tama Superstar snare (8x14 birch shell) for a while now and it has been an extremely fickle and stubborn snare drum. Sometimes it sounds great, but 80% of the time I'm...

Re: This is the Display Your Ludwig Drum Thread

Early 70s 3-ply Ludwig orphan kit I recently refinished accompanied by a late 80’s Tama Superstar 14x8 birch snare. The kit is 24x14, 15x12, 18x16 in “Challenger gray”. The finish is an homage to one...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

Worked like a charm! Just glued and clamped the other area.

I still haven’t gotten a lot of feedback on as to how or if ply separation affects the sound of a drum. My local drum Dr. said it...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

First area of separation has been glued and clamped. I’ll probably give it two days. Separated the plys a bit more with two toothpicks, so I’m confident that the glue got down in there enough.

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

Awesome, didn’t think about using toothpicks. I’ll try that. I’ve got a syringe I had from when I got my wisdom teeth out that has a fairly large thin spout that should do the trick. Thanks for the...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

So I’ve done a little research in fixing the two areas of ply separation. It seems the consensus is that I need to wedge a couple of small nails or a thin knife in between the plys so as to get the...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

Yeah I’m really not picky about throw offs. I like one that is at least aesthetically pleasing, but I just want it to do one thing well....throw my snares on and off haha. No need to swivel out of...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

It is a Dunnett swivel, which I donít care for at all. Good looking throw, but itís so awkward. This may have a play in my troubles. You say the drilling spaces are universal? Iím hoping so. Iíd love...

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

So Iím still grappling with some funky overtones and snare buzz. I have yet to pick up a brand new emperor head, but the old one still sounds great. Right now I have the new Vintage emperor on and...

Re: Lug maintenance/restoration

Ahh thanks for that!

As for felt vs cotton, Iím torn. Do you guys wrap the spring or just put a strip on felt behind the spring?

Re: Lug maintenance/restoration

Yeah it seems that’s the way to go. I’ve been pulled in all directions on this one, but I’m going for cotton. I’ve even seen people wrap the spring in cloth, which seems like a bit much and could...
